Freestyle & Greco-Roman

2020 SEASON

USA Wrestling - New Jersey holds and participates in Olympic-style events (Freestyle and Greco-Roman) within New Jersey and in various regional and national events in various locations around the United States.

Men's and Women's Junior & Cadet Freestyle and Greco-Roman opportunities abound in the Mid-Atlantic region and the nation in general. Developmental and Ranking tournaments are held in-state in order to develop potential members of Olympic-style Team New Jerseys.

Regional Championships (National qualifiers) begin in the Mid-Atlantic region as well as the rest of the country in the Spring, culminating in a National Championship tournament which is held annually (late July, early August) at the Fargo Dome on the campus of the North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. Every year New Jersey sends teams of Males and Females in various age groups to compete for national titles in Freestyle (Males / Females) and Greco-Roman (Males).

USA Wrestling, State of New Jersey, CDC, and WHO Guidelines:

The USA Wrestling New Jersey (USAWNJ) Executive Committee has followed USA Wrestling’s lead and has begun to reorganize the Spring Freestyle and Greco Roman Season.  As you are aware, the State of New Jersey, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have implemented several guidelines that impact the scheduling of our season.

Practice for USAWNJ Sanctioned Clubs:

USA Wrestling strongly encourages all chartered clubs and coaches to adhere to local government land/or school district guidelines and recommendations when deciding whether to host a practice. In cases where clubs have wrestlers from multiple states or school districts that have different criteria for meeting, USAWNJ strongly encourages club leaders to use the most aggressive action plans as the criteria for making decisions.

Continued Communication:

USAWNJ will be meeting frequently to discuss further actions and contingencies as well as continue to monitor the current situation with COVID-19 and will remain in close contact with USA Wrestling’s National office for guidance and information. We will communicate any decisions to our members as soon as possible. We recommend our members monitor their email for our correspondences, our social media accounts and our website for further information.

Regional & National Level Events

As of the date of this correspondence, USA Wrestling National Governing Body has not finalized the Spring Schedule. The Northeast Regional Tournament in Manalapan NJ, the Schoolboy Duals, Cadet Duals, Juniors Duals, UWW Junior and Cadet Trials and the Freestyle and Greco Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota have not been canceled.  There is a strong possibility that this could change depending on the continued outbreak of COVID-19.  As we find out information will share it with our members.
